Part window

A single part is represented in the Part window.

At a minimum, a part consists of an owning organization (the entity responsible for creating and managing its contents), a part type, a unique part identifier, a data record revision, and a name.

The Attributes tab captures additional information about how the part is acquired and used in production. The Materials tab lets you specify the part's total weight, which can be used:

  • as the basis for rolling up an assembly's total weight, and
  • to specify the percentage of various materials that makes up the part and, in turn, roll-up the constituent materials in its parent assemblies.

A part can have both parts and documents on its structure, and can have parts as sources. Any part can also appear on the structure of a higher-level assembly, and can be a source for another part.

You can choose whether to attach CAD files, part specifications and other electronic files directly to a part's Files tab, or attach the files to a document record and list that document record on the part structure.

The part window status bar offers the following controls in the lower left corner:

  • The window can be unlocked for editing using the Lock/Unlock selection. Locking the window automatically saves any changes.

  • A new data revision can be created by selecting <..New..> from the revision selector
