Connect the PDXpert client to the database

After you've entered your account credentials on the Welcome to PDXpert dialog, you may receive an error that the database is not available. It's most likely that access to the Microsoft SQL Server database is being blocked, typically because the server computer's firewall has blocked communications on the SQL Server assigned port.

  • Disable the firewall on the computer where Microsoft SQL Server is installed. If you can then sign into the PDXpert client, the firewall requires configuration to permit communications between the PDXpert client and the SQL Server database.

The SQL Server communication port is, by default, 1433 but may have been set to a different value if a conflict was discovered during installation.

The SQL Server Browser service may need to be exposed, which requires UDP port 1434.

To configure the Microsoft SQL Server connection, see the appropriate diagnostics topics in this Help Guide. Also refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article to learn more about setting your SQL Server ports: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287932
