Attaching an external link

An external link is reference information that's not copied into the PDXpert library. Since an external file or webpage is outside PDXpert's direct control, there's no assurance that the contents will remain the same, or that the resource will will even exist, when you want it. However, if you're pointing to a manufacturer's webpage that describes your part's most current specifications, or to a regulatory agency's home page, this might be precisely what you want.

  1. Open the form, select the Files tab, and then the External Links tab.

  2. If necessary, unlock the item form by, for example, pressing your keyboard's F2 key.

  3. Type (or paste) the webpage or other URL into the empty row.

Hyperlinks are enabled only when the form is locked. You can click on and edit the links while the form is unlocked.

You must include the proper protocol prefix, such as http://. In addition to the http: protocol, you can also point to files using https:, file: and ftp: protocols.

After locking the form, you can click on the hyperlink to open the webpage or file.
