Checking out a library file

You can copy a file from the data library to your computer without affecting other users' ability to access the file. However, if you want to prevent other users from modifying the same file you're working with, you should check out the file.

When you check the file out from the data library, the system first copies the file to your computer, and then locks the library file from further checkouts (other users can still view or copy the file).

  1. Locate the item that's associated with the file. Select the item's Files tab.

  2. Select the file that you want to check out by clicking on the filename.

  3. Select the menu command Tools | Check Out and Lock... to open the Check File Out of Library dialog. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the file, and click the Save button. On the item window's Files tab, open the context menu and select Views | Detail to show your name and the current date/time.
