PDXpert® Application Server overview

The PDXpert Application Server provides facilities for communicating with PDXpert client applications and the Microsoft® SQL Server™ database engine. It displays an administrator interface window (the "console") for configuring the system and for managing your product database and library.

The PDXpert Application Server communication service must be started for clients to access the product database and library files. The service is typically stopped when system maintenance tasks must be performed from the PDXpert Application Server console.

The PDXpert Application Server provides these functions:

Validates that the user logging into the PDXpert client application software is authorized to access your data.
Verifies that the PDXpert client application and the database schema are compatible.
Supplies the database connection information to the PDXpert client application.
Manages the file library for the PDXpert client application.
Enforces the software license that has been assigned to your organization.
Provides database backup, restore, and re-indexing functions.
Manages the email account used to send system notifications.
Downloads new installation software to out-of-date client computers.
Permits resetting the PDXpert "super administrator" account name and password.
