PDXpert PLM: Simple & flexible bill of materials management software
Beyond bills of materials: managing the product structure
A product is not simply a collection of parts. Although the product bill of
materials that's been defined for a manufacturing system may be sufficient to
support the supply chain, it's not adequate to fully describe the end item to
all stakeholders.
Simple bills of materials have evolved into a hierarchical product structure,
or "product tree". These indented items lists are more than parts lists because
they include the additional document references that translate a collection of
components into a final product assembly.
Bill of materials should now include inventoried and floor-stock parts, as
well as references to design, assembly, test and inspection documents. These
requirements should appear directly within the bill of material structure, and
become part of the bill of material management process.
By including documents (and their associated electronic file attachments) on
the product structure, users immediately have a complete picture of the end item
without hunting around for the supporting information. And by including
product-related data, the advantage of bill of materials "where used" part
capabilities extends to planned document changes, which can now can be assessed
for their impact on the referencing assemblies.
Bill of Material (BOM) software
More than a simple bill of materials creator,
PDXpert PLM software combines
parts, documents and supplier source materials into a powerful, multi-level view
of your complete assembly.
In addition to displaying the documents and parts that go into the bill of
materials, PDXpert PLM can report on total multi-level assembly costs and
materials that can be based on sophisticated multiple currency and units of
measure conversions. The indented reports can also include all supplier sources
(with preference ranking) that are attached to each child item on the BOM.
And, unlike manufacturing BOM databases in typical ERP systems, PDXpert PLM maintains a complete
history of all approved bill of material changes to help meet product
traceability requirements. Of course, you can export your BOM to Adobe PDF or
Excel XLS files, which allows you complete flexibility to transmit or format
your BOM for your supply chain partners.
