PDXpert PLM Software Installation Guide

Standard PDXpert software installation for typical environments

Here's the setup process for those who just want to install PDXpert software on a reasonably current computer, without any special considerations. Depending on your computer's configuration, the process takes roughly 15 minutes, principally for installation of Microsoft SQL Server.

For this procedure, your computer must have Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, all Microsoft updates and service packs, an uncompressed internal hard drive, and at least 1GB of memory. For details, see System requirements. You must have administrator rights to your computer, and be the only user logged into Windows.

Using each installer's default values:

  1. Install the PDXpert Application Server. The PDXpertServer installer software installs the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP4 database engine, and both the PDXpert Application Server and PDXpert client.

Microsoft SQL Server only supports database files on uncompressed local volumes. Do not install the PDXpert Application Server on a compressed, network-mapped, or external (e.g., USB) disk drive.

Releases earlier than PDXpert 7.0 do not automatically install the client application. You should install the PDXpert client onto the server computer as described in the next step.

  2. If you have one or more remote workstations, run the PDXpertClient installer on each remote computer to set up the PDXpert client.

  3. Start the PDXpert client by double-clicking the PDXpert desktop icon. The default Admin user account with a blank password will be displayed. Click OK.

  4. In the Software License dialog, you must enter your organization's name, country and the maximum number of user accounts. If you have been issued a license already, enter the remaining details in the Registered license section. If you don't have a license, the other license information can be ignored during your evaluation period. Click OK.
